The OVERAY TUNE Head Strap is a premium halo-style head strap designed specifically for the Meta Quest 3. Unlike many aftermarket straps that focus on gaming comfort or extended battery life, the OVERAY TUNE system is clearly built with productivity and mixed reality usage in mind.
With its open design, balanced weight distribution, and forehead support system, this strap allows users to comfortably work in VR or MR for extended sessions while staying aware of their surroundings.
After spending time using it in productivity apps like Vermillion VR Painting, the experience turned out to be far better than expected.

Design and Build Quality
The OVERAY TUNE uses a halo-style support system that rests on the forehead and the back of the head instead of pressing the headset into your face. This design dramatically reduces facial pressure, making it ideal for long sessions.
The strap is made from polycarbonate framing with synthetic leather padding, giving it a premium feel that matches the white aesthetic of the Quest 3.
One thing you’ll immediately notice is that the sides of the strap do not have pivot points. This is a bit of a trade-off:
Pros
- The rigid sides provide excellent structural support.
- The headset feels very stable when properly adjusted.
Cons
- It can be slightly less convenient to put on and adjust compared to straps with hinge or pivot mechanisms.
In practice, the rigid frame actually contributes to the overall comfort and stability once it’s on your head. You will need to make use of adjusting the top strap in order to get the best fit.
Forehead Pad (Facial Interface) System
The OVERAY TUNE ecosystem includes two forehead pad options:
F1-S Facial Interface
- Dimensions: approx. 157 × 88 × 64 mm
- Weight: approx. 68 g
- Material: Polycarbonate frame + synthetic leather pad
- Color: Matte white frame with soft black padding
F1-L Facial Interface
- Dimensions: approx. 157 × 96 × 64 mm
- Weight: approx. 75 g
- Material: Polycarbonate frame + synthetic leather pad
- Color: Matte white frame with soft black padding
These attach directly into the headset’s facial interface slots and provide forehead-based support rather than face pressure.
However, this design comes with an important limitation:
You cannot use other facial interfaces with this system.
If you want a fully enclosed VR experience for immersive gaming, this strap likely isn’t the best option.
I’m happy that they have included two size options here. Since I use prescription lens inserts, I needed to use the larger one. The smaller one does a good job of getting your eyes close to the Quest 3 lenses so that you don’t lose much field of view.
Comfort and Long Sessions
For productivity, this might be one of the most comfortable Quest 3 straps available.
During testing, sessions of up to two hours were very comfortable thanks to the halo-style support and open design. Since the headset doesn’t press against your face, it helps you stay aware of your surroundings.
This makes it especially useful for:
- Productivity apps
- Mixed reality experiences
- Creative tools
- Long working sessions
In apps like Vermillion VR Painting, the open design made it easy to see real-world tools, references, or surroundings without constantly removing the headset.
Battery Considerations
One notable omission is that the OVERAY TUNE strap does not include an external battery.
Some users may see this as a downside, especially when compared to many third-party straps that include battery packs.
However, for productivity use cases this is often less of a problem. If you’re working at a desk, you can simply:
- Plug the headset into your computer. I’ve been using this with the Quest Link anyway so I wouldn’t even be able to use the battery if there was one.
- Plug the headset into a long charging cable
- Use a nearby power bank.
So while the lack of a battery may disappoint gamers, it’s less of an issue for the strap’s intended use in my opinion.
Performance
Mixed Reality Gaming
For mixed reality, the OVERAY TUNE performs very well.
The open peripheral vision allows you to stay aware of your environment, making it ideal for MR apps and experiences.
However, there is some movement during high-intensity gameplay, which makes sense given the halo design and lack of facial pressure.
This strap is clearly optimized for comfort and awareness, not high-action VR games.
Productivity
This is where the OVERAY TUNE exceeds expectations. I’ve spent hours using this head strap for this type of work and it has always been a pleasant experience. The design keeps all pressure off the face which makes it ideal for long sessions. It surprisingly balances the weight well between the front and back when adjusted properly.
By not having a facial interface, you are able to see some of your surroundings much easier. I used this extensively for my specific use of Vermillion via Quest Link.
Productivity with this head strap definitely has been taken to another level.
Price
At $110 USD, the OVERAY TUNE sits firmly in the premium accessory category.
Considering it does not include a battery, some users may find the price difficult to justify.
However, the build quality, comfort, and productivity-focused design do help explain the premium cost.
Padding and Comfort Options
The included synthetic leather padding is comfortable and easy to clean.
That said, it would be great to see additional padding options in the future. A fabric pad option could offer:
- Better breathability
- Reduced sweat buildup
- More customization for user preference
More comfort options would make an already excellent strap even better.
Final Verdict
The OVERAY TUNE head strap surprised me.
While it won’t replace traditional straps for immersive VR gaming, it may be one of the best head straps available for productivity and mixed reality use on the Meta Quest 3.
Pros
- Excellent comfort for long sessions
- Zero facial pressure design
- Great for productivity and creative apps
- Open peripheral vision for MR
- Premium build quality
Cons
- High price ($110 USD)
- No integrated battery
- Some movement during active gameplay
- Cannot use standard facial interfaces
- Limited padding options
Rating (for its intended purpose)
