AMVR Pro Soft Controller Grips for Meta Quest 3 & 3s – Unboxing, Assembly, Review

Check out the AMVR Pro Soft Controller Grips for Meta Quest 3 and 3s. In this review, I’ll go through what you receive, how to assemble, specs/design, my experience, and final verdict all in the video below. Further down in this article, you can read what I liked and what I didn’t like. Let’s see if these are the best controller grips out there for the Quest 3 & 3s.

Why I Liked the AMVR Pro Soft Grips

  • Much better grip and comfort. The overall feel of the grips is great. There is a bit of texture which adds to the grip and makes them feel better than if they were totally smooth. I find my hands sweat more with completely smooth grips so I’m glad that these are textured.
  • Hand-strap + ergonomic hold. The integrated hand strap (knuckle-style/ wrist strap) adds security and comfort. It is easy to adjust so you can get it perfect for your hands. The strap has some padding to it as well which makes it comfortable.
  • Maintains tracking & doesn’t block LEDs. I didn’t have any issues with it blocking sensors while playing.
  • Battery access without removing grips. With the battery door as part of the grips, you are able to replace the battery without taking off the grip. This is convenient.
  • Great for bigger hands. These extend the length of the controller to make it a better fit and feel for bigger hands.

So in many respects, these grips deliver on what they advertise: improved comfort, better control, easier holding during sweaty or high-motion gameplay, and a nice design.

The Catch — My Experience

Unfortunately, there is significant downside and recurring issues for some users.

The Battery Cover. It didn’t clip in and hold secure. I tried every angle and forcing it in. Nothing made it hold. This resulted in the controller coming loose during high motion games. I’m not the only one with this problem either. Go do a search on Reddit and you’ll find many others that have had this issue as well.

I don’t know if I just received a set from a bad batch. I hope that is the case. I will be messaging AMVR about this issue will see what they say about it.

My Conclusion

Based on the broader feedback and my personal experience, I think the AMVR grip covers can be excellent. They deliver comfort, better grip, and improved VR gameplay. But, there’s a nontrivial risk of getting a set where the battery-cover clip doesn’t seat properly. That risk appears to be real, not just anecdotal.

Given how others have voiced similar frustrations, I’d treat this as a quality-control / manufacturing tolerance problem with certain units, rather than writing off the design wholesale.

I would give these two big thumbs up if it wasn’t for that problem.

What You Could Do (and What I’d Suggest if I Were You)

  1. Contact the seller / manufacturer for replacement. Given the number of complaints about “clip not snapping” or “controller flying out,” it’s reasonable to request a replacement — perhaps a set from a different batch.
  2. Double-check installation carefully. Sometimes these covers need more force (or a precise angle) to snap in properly. Ensure the battery door “clicks” as solidly as possible.
  3. Leave feedback / review to help others. Reporting issues helps future buyers spot patterns, especially if multiple folks get defective units.
