Both the KKCOBVR Q3U and the AMVR BS1 are halo type head straps that have cooling systems and fans built into them. We’re going to take a deep dive into each of them to figure out with one is best or in better terms, which one is best for you. Though both have a forehead fan and are halo style straps, there are some major differences between them that will help you decide which one is better.

Design Comparison

Similarities

The Q3U and the BS1 are both Halo type straps. They have a large forehead band where fans are, and a large rear pad and mechanism with the dial to adjust the tightness. The batteries are both on the top of the rear padding.

KKCOBVR Q3U

The Q3U attaches to the Quest with pieces that clip on over the arms. There are dials on these clips that allow adjustment of head strap to face distance. The forehead pad and rear pad are connected via a top strap. The top strap is adjustable velcro. The rear pad is quite large and all leather material. The rear portion is able to hold itself upright and doesn’t collapse under its own weight.

The back mechanism not only houses the dial for adjustment but has two other very important features. It has two fans and a headphone jack. It also has the button to control the fans. The forehead fan is also magnetic so you can easily remove to put it on as your prefer.

AMVR BS1

The BS1 attaches to the Quest with friction sliding pieces. The top of the head is supported with what I like to call Goat Horn pads (similar to the BOBOVR S3 Pro). These tops pads are adjustable with little buttons below each of them. The rear pad is made half of leather padding and half of silicone with holes for ventilation. It is also quite flimsy and flops around. I know that this helps with it forming to your head, however, it’s a little too flimsy for what I like. The control for the fan is on the right side of the strap and has a little dial for adjusting it.

Design Winner

It’s hard to deny that the KKCOBVR Q3U is better built than the BS1. It is more secure, has more adjustability, thicker padding, and more features built into it.

Comfort/Adjustability Comparison

Similarities

Each of these head straps had some similar padding. There is the large static forehead pad across the front and large rear padding with the adjustment dial on the back.

KKCOBVR Q3U

The Q3U has large leather padding all around. These pads are honestly some of the largest/thickest I’ve experience from any company. Connecting the forehead pad and the rear padding is a top strap with padding similar to what you would see on an elite style strap. This actually really helps with distributing the weight of this strap.

The adjustability offered by the Q3U is great as well. There are side knobs built into the arms that allow for easy and secure adjustment of the distance between the headset and your face. The top strap is easy to adjust for comfort as well.

AMVR BS1

The BS1 connects to the Quest via friction sliding grips. These can be moved forward or backward for preferred eye distance to the Quest. There are little measurements inside the arm to help with this. The top pads are adjustable with three levels at the push of a button.

Comfort/Adjustability Winner

Each of these head straps are heavy. The BS1 is 630 grams and the Q3U is 680 grams. However, with the design of the Q3U distributes the weight better and felt better on my head overall. So I give the comfort win to the Q3U.

Cooling System Comparison

Similarities

Both the KKCOBVR Q3U and the AMVR BS1 have a fan on the forehead pad. They are centrally located and push air down onto the front of the face. This is where the similarities stop between these two.

KKCOBVR Q3U

The Q3U also features two fans built into the rear mechanism of the strap. These fans push air down the back of your neck. That might seem silly but it actually helped keep the experience cooler overall. These two back fans are quite powerful and move a lot of air.

The forehead fan is also removable and held on by a magnet. This means that you can remove it and save a little weight if you don’t plan to use it.

Another notable feature is that the fans can run off the Quest battery. This means that you don’t need to have the external battery attached for the fans to work. This will drain your Quest battery quicker, but if you want the cooling systems with 200 grams of less weight, it’s possible!

AMVR BS1

The AMVR BS1 has the forehead fan that we mentioned before. The fan on the BS1 is more powerful than the fan on the Q3U. Not by a whole bunch but it was noticeable.

One part that makes it cooler is the ice silk forehead padding. I honestly love this forehead padding as it helps the coolness of wear your forehead actually touches the pad. The leather padding of other straps create much more sweat from my experience.

Cooling System Winner

For the winner of the cooling system, even though I like the ice silk padding on the BS1 and the BS1 has a bit stronger of a fan, the overall experience is better for the Q3U. The neck fans make that much of a difference in my opinion.

Battery Comparison

The batteries for each of these head straps are very similar. They are each hot-swappable, allowing you to have multiple charged and just swap them out as needed.

They each have slightly different capacities though. The AMVR BS1 has an 8,000 mAh battery while the KKCOBVR Q3U has a 10,000 mAh battery. This means that the Q3U battery will last maybe 30-45 minutes longer. Not a big difference but for some it may be noticeable.

Verdict

If you haven’t already figured it out, my overall winner is the KKCOBVR Q3U. I find it more comfortable, better overall cooling, more features, and a better overall head strap.

However, the AMVR BS1 can win for some people if you want a cheaper option, like the ice silk padding better, and want a slightly more powerful forehead fan. Those three things could make the difference for some so that is why I include it here.
