Battery head straps have become one of the most important upgrades for Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S owners. It’s one of the first accessories that I recommend to new users to make their VR experience more enjoyable. Not only do they extend playtime, but they can dramatically improve comfort during long VR sessions.
Two of the most popular premium options currently available are the AMVR BS1 and the BOBOVR S3 Pro. Both feature integrated cooling fans, hot-swappable batteries, and premium comfort-focused designs. After spending significant time with both, it’s clear that each excels in different areas.
So which one should you buy?

Quick Verdict
If you’re looking for the best overall package, in my opinion, the BOBOVR S3 Pro earns the win.
Its lighter weight, larger battery capacity, stronger ecosystem, and more refined overall design make it the better long-term investment for most Quest users.
However, right out of the box and by themselves, the AMVR BS1 might actually get my vote. It remains an excellent alternative and actually wins in several comfort-related categories, particularly if cooling and forehead comfort are your top priorities.

Comfort & Fit
This category is much closer than I expected.
The AMVR BS1 is actually the heaviest head strap I’ve ever tested, coming in around 625 grams on my scale. The BOBOVR S3 Pro is significantly lighter at approximately 560 grams.
During shorter gaming sessions, the difference isn’t especially noticeable. AMVR has done an excellent job balancing the weight so it doesn’t feel excessively heavy when first worn.
Over longer sessions, however, the extra weight of the BS1 becomes more apparent. If you’re spending several hours in VR, the lighter S3 Pro has the advantage.
Where the BS1 fights back is in its padding design.
The forehead pad uses a soft Ice Silk material that feels cooler and more comfortable than the leather-style forehead pad included with the S3 Pro. The oversized rear pad is also extremely soft and cradles the back of the head exceptionally well. It’s very form fitting.
For pure comfort, I actually prefer the BS1’s padding versus the S3 Pro padding out of the box.
Winner: Draw
The S3 Pro wins on weight while the BS1 wins on padding comfort.
Cooling Performance
Both head straps include integrated cooling fans, but they approach cooling differently.
The BOBOVR S3 Pro’s fan is noticeably more powerful and disperses around the head better. It moves more air and offers fine-tuned adjustment through its 100-level speed control system.
However, cooling isn’t just about fan strength.
Because the BS1 uses Ice Silk padding and ventilated forehead cushions, I often found the overall experience cooler despite the fan itself being a little weaker.
The cooling air is able to work directly through the breathable padding, which helps prevent heat buildup around the forehead. With the leather padding on the S3 Pro, I still found my forehead to get sweaty or at least be hot.
That said, things change if you add aftermarket accessories.
Pairing the S3 Pro with the Nexus Orbit Ice Silk and Ice Gel pads creates what is arguably the best cooling setup available for Quest 3 right now. The downside is that those pads add roughly another $20 to the overall cost so that is something to take into consideration.
Winner: AMVR BS1 (Stock)
Winner: BOBOVR S3 Pro (With Nexus Orbit Pads)
Battery Performance
On paper, the BOBOVR S3 Pro wins this category comfortably.
Its B100 battery provides 10,000mAh of capacity compared to the BS1’s 8,000mAh battery.
For users who only plan on owning a single battery, this is a meaningful advantage. The larger battery simply delivers more runtime.
However, both systems use hot-swappable batteries.
If you’re planning to buy additional batteries anyway, the 2,000mAh difference becomes far less important because you’ll be swapping batteries during extended sessions regardless.
Winner: BOBOVR S3 Pro. Unless more batteries are planned to be purchased
Adjustability
This was one area where the BS1 genuinely surprised me.
The top support pads, what I affectionately call the “goat horns”, are significantly more adjustable on the BS1.
On the S3 Pro, I personally found the top supports uncomfortable enough that I usually remove them entirely. They tended to create pressure points on my head unless I adjusted the head strap into a very precise position.
The BS1 allows for much more adjustment, making it easier to position the supports comfortably. They’re also easier to remove when desired.
The rest of the adjustability was pretty similar between the two but those top pads definitely make a difference.
Winner: AMVR BS1
Build Quality
Both straps feel premium, but the BOBOVR S3 Pro feels slightly more refined overall.
The structure feels sturdier, the adjustment mechanisms feel more robust, and the strap can stand upright on its own when sitting on a desk or being held.
The BS1’s heavier rear section causes it to sag backward when not being worn, which is a minor issue as it doesn’t affect it when worn but something worth noting.
Winner: BOBOVR S3 Pro
Ecosystem & Accessories
This is where BOBOVR creates a larger gap in my opinion.
Both companies offer charging docks and accessory ecosystems designed to work together.
AMVR’s CD2 charging station is solid and can charge the headset, a battery through another cord (doesn’t come with the 2nd cord), and controllers. It does come with a charging block capable of handling the load though.
BOBOVR’s D3 Charging Station is simply more capable but does have one major drawback.
The D3 can:
- Charge the headset
- Charge hot-swappable batteries
- Charge controllers equipped with BOBOVR charging grips
- Serve as a complete Quest charging solution
But it doesn’t come with a 45W or higher charging block necessary to charge it all at the same time. For the price point, this was a disappointment.
The AMVR ecosystem is growing, but BOBOVR’s accessory lineup currently feels more mature and interconnected.
Winner: BOBOVR S3 Pro
Facial Interfaces
This isn’t directly part of the head straps, but many buyers will eventually consider matching facial interfaces.
Personally, I prefer the AMVR FC4A and FC4M facial interfaces over the BOBOVR F3.
The reason is simple: Ice Silk.
The FC4A and FC4M use Ice Silk padding that I find cooler and more comfortable than the leather-only design used on the F3. They have recessed padding along the forehead to allow for airflow which woks quite well. The F3 has channels built into the interface which also allows more airflow but it is a leather material which I don’t prefer.
If maximum comfort is your goal, AMVR currently has an advantage in facial interfaces.
Winner: AMVR
Value
- AMVR BS1: Approximately $77 USD
- BOBOVR S3 Pro: Approximately $90 USD
The BS1 undercuts the S3 Pro by about $13 while still delivering excellent comfort, cooling, and battery performance.
If you’re shopping on a tighter budget, the BS1 offers tremendous value.
Winner: AMVR BS1
Final Verdict
This comparison ended up being much closer than expected.
The AMVR BS1 delivers outstanding comfort, excellent cooling performance, better top-pad adjustability, and a lower price. For many users, especially those who prioritize comfort over everything else, it may actually be the better choice. And right out of the box, it’s great.
However, when looking at the complete package, the BOBOVR S3 Pro still comes out ahead.
The lighter weight becomes increasingly important during long sessions. The larger 10,000mAh battery provides more runtime. The build quality feels slightly more refined. Nexus Orbit helps provide better padding. The S3 Pro is tried and true over a much longer period of time now which does count for something. Most importantly, BOBOVR currently offers the stronger accessory ecosystem and charging solutions.
Overall Winner: BOBOVR S3 Pro
That doesn’t make the AMVR BS1 a bad choice, far from it. In fact, it’s one of the best Quest 3 or 3s battery head straps currently available. If you are just purchasing a head strap and nothing else, you could argue that the BS1 is better. But if I could only recommend one premium battery strap to the average Quest 3 owner today, the BOBOVR S3 Pro would still get the nod as I know most VR users end up getting more accessories over time.
