The new user interface on Meta Quest headsets offers a very different look, organization, and functionality compared to the old UI. Though some users are happy for the change, I know many users miss the old user interface and would like it back. There are many different ways in which you can enable the old user interface again, however, it is noted that these fixes may be temporary and that the Quest automatically goes back to the new UI anytime the headset is powered down or restarted.
The three ways to go back to the old UI are through three different apps:
- SideQuest (Free)
- Lightning Launcher (Free)
- Quest Games Optimizer (Paid)
Both SideQuest and Lightning Launcher offer free ways to do this. Quest Games Optimizer costs $10 but many users already have it so they can easily make this switch via that app.
Or watch each individual one below.
SideQuest (Free)
I didn’t show how to install SideQuest in this video. If you need to install it, please make reference to their setup page: https://sidequestvr.com/setup-howto
Lightning Launcher (Free)
Lightning Launcher is the easiest in my opinion if you don’t have any of the apps yet. The app is on the Quest Store, it’s free, and takes away any of the extra setup that both SideQuest and Quest Games Optimizer have.
Here is the Lightning Launcher app page in the Meta Shop: https://www.meta.com/en-gb/experiences/lightning-launcher/8715195505254856/
Quest Games Optimizer (Paid)
Quest Games Optimizer does have an option now in their settings menu that easily allows you to make the switch, however, it isn’t a free app and you have to side load it to your Quest.
Similar to SideQuest, I didn’t show how to install Quest Games Optimizer. There are a lot of installation videos on their website: https://www.quest-games-optimizer.com
