If there’s one thing becoming clear in the world of VR accessories, it’s that comfort matters just as much as battery life. After spending time with the AMVR BS1 Battery Strap for the Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S, this head strap surprised me in a few ways, especially when it came to comfort and weight distribution.
The BS1 isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel. Instead, AMVR focused on a very popular design for the Quest that deals heavily on cooling, fit, and ergonomics while still packing in an 8,000mAh battery and active ventilation system. The result is a premium-feeling strap that competes directly with options like the BOBOVR S3 Pro, while carving out its own strengths.

Design & Comfort
The first thing I noticed was how comfortable the overall design feels despite the weight. At roughly 630 grams, this is actually the heaviest VR head strap I’ve personally tested. I was quite surprised when I put it on the scale to measure the weight as the balance is surprisingly good. Once it’s on your head, the weight distribution prevents it from feeling overly front-heavy during normal sessions.
That said, over extended play sessions you can still notice some weight fatigue. Physics is physics. But for shorter and medium-length sessions, the balance does a great job masking how heavy the strap really is.
Where the BS1 really shines is the padding design.
The oversized rear pad is extremely soft and malleable, cradling the back of the head comfortably without creating pressure points. Some straps can feel rigid or overly narrow around the sides of the head, but the BS1 felt wide enough to avoid that squeezed-in feeling entirely.
The forehead pad may honestly be my favorite part of the entire design. Instead of leather-style material, AMVR uses an ice silk fabric that stays noticeably cooler during gameplay. In my experience, it simply feels better than leather for longer VR sessions and definitely creates less red marks on your face if you’re worried about that. Though harder to clean, I like it better.
AMVR also integrated ventilation holes directly into the forehead padding, allowing airflow to cool not just your forehead but the padding itself. Combined with the built-in fan system, it genuinely helps reduce heat buildup.
Active Cooling System
The built-in fan is a feature limited to very few head straps and the AMVR BS1 is one of those.
The airflow is subtle rather than overpowering, but it provides enough cooling to help reduce lens fog and forehead sweat during active games or workouts. There’s an easily accessible button for adjusting fan speed, and the airflow settings are simple to change while wearing the headset.
If you play physically demanding VR games, especially rhythm or fitness titles, the cooling system becomes one of the BS1’s standout features.
Battery Performance
The BS1 includes an 8,000mAh battery that adds roughly 3 additional hours of gameplay depending on the apps you’re running.
Lighter experiences can stretch that further, while more demanding mixed reality or graphically intensive titles will drain the battery faster. Overall, the extra runtime feels solid for most users and is enough to comfortably extend longer VR sessions.
AMVR also deserves credit for emphasizing safety. The BS1 uses pouch cell battery technology similar to what’s found in official VR hardware, along with multiple built-in protection systems and fast charging support.
Because these batteries are hot-swappable, you can purchase extra of them to continually use and basically have endless game time.
The AMVR CD1 Charging Dock is made to keep these extra batteries fully charged and ready to go. Charge two at a time and know what percentage they are at with the little screens for each slot.

Adjustability
The “Goat Horn” upper support pads are one of the more interesting features here, and thankfully they’re very adjustable.
Unlike some competing straps where the upper pads can dig into the head, the BS1’s horn supports can be repositioned easily using dedicated buttons. AMVR also includes measurement markings along the adjustment arms, which makes it easy to dial in consistent positioning after sharing the headset with someone else.
An underrated bonus: the horn pads can also be removed entirely if preferred.
Another nice touch is that the rear design allows you to lean back against a couch or chair more comfortably without completely ruining your hairstyle or pushing the headset awkwardly forward.
Quick Comparison: AMVR BS1 vs BOBOVR S3 Pro
I’ll be doing a full head-to-head comparison later, but I know many will be interested in a quick comparison here. These are a few immediate differences that stand out.
Where the BOBOVR S3 Pro Wins
- Larger 10,000mAh battery
- Slightly lighter overall weight (~560g vs ~630g)
- More premium/sturdy construction
- Greater pivot adjustability range
- Stronger Fan
Where the AMVR BS1 Wins
- Cooler and more comfortable ice silk forehead padding
- Better-adjustable horn pads
- More comfortable fit for wider heads
- Cooling ventilation integrated into the padding
- Lower price point
One area where I personally preferred the BS1 was forehead comfort. The leather padding on the S3 Pro tends to feel warmer over time, while the BS1’s fabric and ventilation system stay cooler during long sessions.
I also had issues with the S3 Pro’s upper support pads digging into my head, to the point where I removed them entirely. The BS1’s adjustment system worked significantly better for my head shape.
On the flip side, the fan of the S3 Pro was a clear winner when testing the two. The battery also is a clear winner sitting at 10,000 mAh.
Pricing
- AMVR BS1 Battery Strap — approximately $76 USD regular price
- BOBOVR S3 Pro — approximately $89 USD regular price
That lower price makes the BS1 especially interesting for users who prioritize comfort and cooling over maximum battery capacity.
Final Thoughts
The AMVR BS1 Battery Strap ended up being a more impressive head strap than I expected. I expected just a copycat of the BOBOVR S3 Pro but there were some notable changes and differences that do make it stand out.
Yes, it’s heavy on paper, but excellent weight distribution helps hide that surprisingly well. The cooling system genuinely improves comfort, the ice silk padding feels fantastic, and the fit worked especially well for my wider head shape.
It isn’t perfect. The pivot adjustment range could be better, and marathon sessions can eventually reveal the added weight. But if cooling and comfort are your priorities, the BS1 absolutely deserves consideration alongside premium competitors like the BOBOVR S3 Pro.
For many users, especially those frustrated with sweaty forehead pads or uncomfortable upper supports, the BS1 may actually end up being the better overall fit.
