Design Review

KKCOBVR has done a great job at designing this head strap. They have taken what worked in their previous Q3Pro and improved it in so many ways. Let’s go through this head strap.

It connects to your headset with over arm clips. At the end of these clips are dials that we’ve seen them use before (on the halo version). These dials allow you to adjust the distance of the headset to your face very easily. Great for everyone and especially nice for glasses and prescription lens insert users.

All of the padding is leather material and is very thick. The forehead piece has the magnetic fan piece which means the fan can be removed if you aren’t using it and want to save on the weight a little. The forehead piece is wide enough for big heads (which I have) so I’m glad they’ve improved this from the Q3Pro as I found that one too narrow.

Going from the forehead pad to the back pad is a padded top strap. This is great compared to the goat horns that we’ve seen on other types of straps.

The rear pad is quite large, flexible, and has really thick padding. There is a spot on the back of it for the hot-swappable P3 battery of which we’ll discuss later.

The rear mechanism is something we’ve never seen before. It has the adjustment knob like all others, but that’s where the similarities end. There are two powerful fans built into this part that blow air down onto the back of your neck. Then there is also a headphone jack there too. This is important for Meta Quest 3S users as the 3S doesn’t have it’s own headphone jack. Then there is the little switch button that controls the fans and allows you to adjust the power level of them.

Then there is the fact that it comes with the adapters to make it an elite style strap as well. Not many head straps do this so to have the option is fantastic. Basically a two-for-one deal here.

Comfort & Adjustability

The big question we all want to know, is it comfortable? Simple answer, yes it is. KKCOBVR has done a good job at taking the 680 grams and designing it in a way so that it feels like a lighter head strap. Over extended periods of time, you will notice the extra weight but for short or medium length sessions, it’s not actually bad at all.

The padding as mentioned above is all very thick and very comfortable. With these large pads, the weight is distributed nicely all around. The choice to use a top strap instead of goat horns is also a very wise one. It helps with balance and doesn’t create pressure points on the top of the head.

The adjustability is quite smooth with the Q3U. The side knobs to adjust the distance to your face are awesome. The top strap is easy to adjust.

Overall, I give this one a top-notch comfort grade!

Cooling System

The cooling system on the Q3U is the first of its kind in more than one way. It features a forehead fan that is removable. If you don’t plan to use it and don’t want the extra weight, just take it off!

Then it features two quite powerful fans on the rear part of the strap. These fans blow air down the back of your neck to keep you cool that way as well.

If we talk strictly about the forehead fan, I found it to be the least powerful when comparing it to the BOBOVR S3 Pro and AMVR BS1. However, when considering the cooling system as a whole, the extra fans on the back of the Q3U were very nice to have. So if you are worried strictly about face coolness, then the S3 Pro has the most powerful. But if you are worried about keeping cool overall, the Q3U is the best.

One other thing to note, the fans on the Q3U are able to run without the P3 Battery being in place. They can run off the Quest 3 or 3S battery. No other head strap with a fan can do this. That means that you can shed the extra 200 grams of weight if you are wanting to just do a quick workout session, still want the fans, but don’t want the extra weight. Very clever and a nice touch by KKCOBVR here.

Battery

KKCOBVR P3 Hot-Swappable Battery

KKCOBVR has created a new battery for the the new Q3U. It is the new P3 battery pack.

Here are some of its features:

  • Built-in display to show percentage charged
  • 10,000 mAh capacity
  • Hot-swappable
  • ~200 grams

They will available for purchase separately so that you can have endless game time. One battery will give you roughly 3 hours of extra game time.

BOBOVR S3 Pro

There are two other main head straps with fans that we’ll discuss here. We have the infamous BOBOVR S3 Pro and the newer AMVR BS1. We’re going to be doing a full comparison between these head straps in another article and video but I just wanted to touch on a few points here.

Let’s talk front fan power first. BOBOVR S3 Pro wins, then AMVR BS1, and KKCOBVR Q3U in last. Overall coolness can change though with the rear fans on the Q3U.

In terms of weight, the BOBOVR S3 Pro is the lightest (~560 grams) and the KKCOBVR Q3U is the heaviest (~680 grams).

Comfort. This is where things get interesting. I actually like the comfort and fit of the Q3U better than the S3 Pro. it distributes the weight better, has thicker padding, and I hate the goat horn top pads on the S3 Pro.

Price. The S3 Pro and Q3U are the same price while the BS1 is about $15 cheaper.

Again, we’ll do an in depth comparison of them all but I wanted to mention of few of these things here.

Verdict

Is this the head strap for you?

Here is what I like about this one:

  • Option between Halo & Elite style
  • Very thick padding
  • Top Strap instead of Goat Horns
  • Three fans for great cooling experience
  • 10,000 mAh hot-swappable battery
  • Side knobs for adjusting distance

Here are some things to note:

  • Heavy
  • Not the most powerful front fan

So if you really need more fan power on your face, then maybe this isn’t the one. But other than that, I give this a better ranking than its competitors.
