Check out my review of the Bobovr G3 Plus Controller Grips. When I picked up the G3 Plus grips, I was mostly after two things: a slightly larger “handle” feel for my Quest 3 controllers, and the convenience of charging them without removing the grips when paired with a charging dock. Let’s go through what you get and the features of these grips. Feel free to watch the video below of my full, hands-on review.
Bobovr G3 Plus Controller Grips Design
Its basic design is similar to other controller grips with a few difference. The cover is made of silicone. The hand strap is made of a fine-fibre leather with metal clips. There are two metal points on the inside where your palm would be that allow for charging passthrough to the D3 Dock or CD3 Dock.
Compared to the stock controllers, the G3 Plus adds roughly 0.71 inches (≈ 1.8 cm) of extra length at the bottom, which really shows with larger hands.
The controller is kept in the sleeve by the top of the silicone wrapping over the top.
What I Like
- Extended, more ergonomic grip: As noted, the extra length makes an appreciable difference in hand feel. Holding the controller feels more natural, especially for bigger hands.
- Comfort / anti-slip silicone: The grips are soft, somewhat breathable (thanks to “ultra-fine fiber” wrist strap), and the silicone’s sweat-channel/groove design adds a bit of confidence during sweaty or energetic play.
- Tracking-safe design: The grips are designed so as not to block any of the tracking sensors — so far I haven’t noticed any drop in tracking consistency or responsiveness.
- Charging Compatibility: Possibly the biggest selling point — with the right dock (e.g. Bobobvr CD3 Controller Charging Combo or the Bobovr D3 Charging Dock), you can charge your controllers without removing the grips. That convenience is huge if you use your Quest often.
- Good value/price: At around the same price as many other third-party grips, but offering both extended grip and charging compatibility, they strike a nice balance between comfort, practicality, and cost.
- Thin Cover: Compared to other controller grips that I have tested, the G3 Plus Controllers feel thinner. But honestly, this isn’t a bad thing. This makes them not feel bulky in my hands.
What Could Be Better (My Personal Gripes)
No product is perfect. Here are a few ways the G3 Plus feels “almost — but not quite” there for me:
- Texture isn’t aggressive enough for my taste. The silicone is smooth and comfortable, but I personally would’ve preferred a more textured (or grippy) surface — maybe deeper grooves or a slightly rougher silicone — for maximum control in sweaty/fast-motion games. Both AMVR and Kiwi Design has better textured grips in my opinion.
Verdict: Who the G3 Plus Grips Are For
If you:
- Have moderately large or large hands,
- Play VR for long sessions (fitness, rhythm games, shooters, etc.),
- Want the convenience of charging without removing grips and are willing to purchase the Bobovr Dock or Controller Dock
- Favor comfort and a more substantial controller feel over the minimalism of stock controllers
I think the G3 Plus is among the best “all-around” third-party grips you can buy for Quest 3 / 3S. If you instead prefer maximum tactile feedback, and a bit more substance to them, you might prefer the Kiwi Design G4 Pros.
For me personally, especially the fact that they can charge is making them my go to. Plain and simple. Convenience trumps everything else for me right now.
Where to Buy
Here are a few places where you can find them:
Or, if you also want a charging solution, pairing them with a charging dock makes the most of their convenience: add a charging dock like the Bobovr CD3 combo or Bobovr D3 Charging Dock to complete the setup.
