With the new User Interface (UI) on Meta Quest VR headsets, learning how to screen record and take a screenshot is important. The regular controller shortcut still works, however, the camera app has changed dramatically. I’ll take you through it all to make sure you understand how you can properly screen record and take screenshots.
You can watch the video below or read further down.
How to Screen Record
There are two ways that you can start screen recording.
First, you can still use the controller shortcut where you press and hold the Meta button on the right controller, then press and hold the front trigger immediately after you start holding the Meta button. I show this in the video at about the 0:20 mark so you can see it. Some people have said it doesn’t work anymore but I’ve been using it on repeat for the last two days and it works every time.
Second, you can press the Meta button to open your library. Click on the Camera App. You will then see a new little menu bar open up at the bottom or your screen. The button second in from the left will start a screen record.
How to Take a Screenshot
Similar to screen recording, there are two ways in which you can take a screenshot.
First, the controller shortcut still works for this as well. Press and hold the Meta button and immediately after you start holding it just click the front trigger. This will take a screenshot for you. Again, I show this in the video above with my controller at about the 0:20 mark if you would like a demonstration.
Second, you will need to open up your library by pressing the Meta button. Click on the Camera App. Look at the new menu bar that opened at the bottom of your screen. The button on the far left is to take a screenshot. It will count down to give you time to get back into your game.
New Camera App Menu Bar & Features

When you click on the Camera App in the Library it opens up a menu bar at the bottom of your screen that looks like the one above. I have taken the liberty to label what each of the buttons are here as the words aren’t actually there on your screen.
This allows for quick access to screenshots, screen record, casting, your gallery, and quick settings (which I have found very useful so far).
When you click on quick settings, here is what you’ll see:

You can change the Mic settings, Camera View from First Person to Avatar Selfie View, and Aspect Ratio to Landscape, Portrait, and Square. These are awesome for people needing to quickly change any of these. Personally, I change aspect ratio very often depending on if I’ve filming for Shorts/TikToks or Long-form videos so I have really appreciated this quick access. You can then also access the main page of Camera Settings from here as well.
The Camera Settings page does have a different layout as well. One thing I noticed that is new are the Capture Markers. You can turn these on and it will show you on screen what part is actually being recorded. Before it was a bit of a guessing game so I really like this update as well.

I have actually enjoyed the new Camera App layout and features in the new UI for Meta Quest. Let me know what you think in the comments below!
