IAI VR Review – A Unique Two-Player Puzzle Adventure on Meta Quest & Steam

Share:

If you’ve been searching for a VR puzzle game that goes beyond solving riddles and truly tests how well you and a friend can communicate, IAI is a must-play. Available on Meta Quest and Steam, this cooperative, VR-only experience places you and a partner in the roles of two androids learning how to think, feel, and communicate like humans. Though you can match with strangers, I found it the most fun to play with a friend.

Unlike most VR games, IAI cannot be played solo. It is multiplayer only, meaning teamwork isn’t optional—it’s the entire foundation of the experience. Each puzzle is designed around cooperation, with players often seeing or experiencing different pieces of information. To progress, you’ll need to rely on clear communication, careful observation, and shared reasoning.

Gameplay & Puzzle Design of IAI

The puzzles in IAI strike a nice balance. Some are straightforward, while others really make you stop and think, but none feel unfair. This variety keeps the experience engaging and prevents it from becoming repetitive. The way each scene is crafted creates a strong sense of intrigue and wonder—you’re always curious about what’s coming next.

Some require a bit of trial and error but I really enjoyed having to figure things out. The light-bulb moments while solving are always fun.

Controls & Interaction on IAI

The controls in IAI are easy to learn, making it approachable for new players while still offering depth for VR veterans. One standout feature is the finger tracking, which allows you to independently control each finger for more expressive hand gestures and natural communication with your partner.

IAI Movement Settings Screen

Movement settings are flexible—you can adjust turning style, angle of rotation, walking speed, and more to fit your comfort level. Interaction with objects is a bit different compared to many other VR titles. Instead of the usual “magnetic grab,” you’ll need to point at an item, wait for a line indicator, click the side trigger to pull it toward you, and then hold the trigger to catch it. While this adds an extra step, it reinforces the game’s deliberate and thoughtful pace. If an item is floating or on a table and hasn’t been grabbed yet, you can just reach out and grab it as normal.

Wrist Settings on IAI VR Multiplayer Meta Quest

Another clever design touch is the settings menu, which is conveniently accessible on your left arm. This diegetic approach keeps you immersed in the world without breaking flow by opening external menus.

Narrative & Atmosphere

At its core, the game tells the story of the Dreamers, revealed through environmental storytelling, fragments of dialogue, and player choices. Combined with its sci-fi setting and the fact that you can see your full body in VR (not just floating hands), the immersion is excellent. You truly feel like you’re stepping into a fragmented world where communication is your greatest tool.

IAI VR Puzzle Game for Meta Quest - Riddle Room

I’ve played quite a few hours of it so far and have been impressed with the variety of scenes and puzzles. Each scene creates different feelings and questions as you work through. You’ll find various stuffed animal toys throughout which add even more to the intrigue. Each area as a different ambient soundtrack that helps create different moods and feelings in the players. Though the graphics are revolutionary, they are good enough to create an immersive and enjoyable experience.

IAI VR Puzzle Multiplayer Game

The storyline has left me with a lot of questions thus far. This isn’t in a bad thing though. It has created questions as to what is next, why things are the way they are, and what the game is leading too. I’m impressed with the idea of the game.

Community & Development

One of the strongest aspects of IAI is its community-focused development. The team is very responsive to feedback, actively listening to suggestions and addressing bugs quickly. This makes the game feel like a living project that only gets better with time. I’ve seen too many games lose support early on, but that won’t happen with this one.

Price & Availability

The best part? You can try a free version before committing to the full game. If you enjoy it, the complete experience is available for just $14.99, making it a fantastic value for fans of cooperative puzzle adventures.

Where to Buy IAI

You can pick up IAI on the two main VR platforms:

Cross-platform play is supported, so Quest and PC VR players can team up without any issues.

Final Thoughts on IAI

IAI is a refreshing addition to the VR puzzle genre. Its unique two-player design, intriguing world, and clever puzzle mechanics make it a standout experience on both Meta Quest and Steam. If you enjoy working together with a friend to solve mysteries and overcome challenges, this game should be at the top of your list.
