Take VR Golf to the Next Level – AMVR GA1 Haptic VR Golf Club – Unboxing, Assembly, & Review

Share:

The AMVR GA1 Haptic VR Golf Club is one of the most ambitious VR golf accessories currently available for the Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S. Designed with a full-length shaft, weighted club head, and built-in force feedback, this accessory aims to bridge the gap between casual VR golf and something that feels genuinely close to swinging a real club.

After spending time with it across multiple golf titles, it’s clear that the GA1 isn’t for everyone—but for the right type of VR golfer, it’s one of the most immersive and impressive options on the market.

Where to Buy

Design & Build Quality

The first thing you’ll notice about the AMVR GA1 is its size and realism. At 31.5 inches long, this is a full-length VR golf club, not a compact or adjustable attachment. AMVR has clearly prioritized realism over portability here.

The club head is a plastic cup. The shaft uses high-strength carbon fiber, resulting in a solid yet lightweight feel. The included 34g removable weight block allows you to fine-tune the balance slightly, helping the center of gravity feel closer to a real golf club.

The grip itself feels excellent. It uses a professional-style golf grip that’s sweat-absorbent, breathable, and non-slip. During longer sessions, the grip remained comfortable and secure, even when swinging aggressively.

The overall weight is about 430 grams, a solid weight for a realistic feel and swing. Though I’ve tested heavier ones, I was content with the weight of this.

Overall, the GA1 feels premium and purpose-built rather than gimmicky.

Haptic Feedback & Realism

One of the standout features of the AMVR GA1 is its force feedback system. Unlike basic controller mounts, this club generates realistic hitting sounds and vibration feedback when you make contact with the ball in-game.

The vibration strength is manually adjustable, which is a nice touch. You can dial it back for longer sessions or crank it up if you want stronger impact feedback. While it’s obviously not the same as hitting a real golf ball, it adds a surprising amount of immersion, especially in full simulation-style golf games.

When paired with titles like Golf+ or Golf5, the feedback helps with timing, swing confidence, and overall immersion in a way standard controller grips simply can’t match. It was surprisingly fun to swing!

Safety & Stability

Swinging a full-length VR golf club is only fun if it feels secure—and thankfully, AMVR nailed this aspect.

The GA1 uses a reinforced metal snap structure to hold the Quest controller firmly in place. According to AMVR, it has been tested by professional golfers, and in normal use it does not loosen or detach during swings.

In my experience, the controller stayed locked in during gameplay. I did, however, encounter a minor issue with the removable weight block, which required placing a small rubber band underneath to keep it perfectly secure. After contacting AMVR support and reading other user feedback, this appears to be a one-off issue, not a widespread flaw—but it’s still worth mentioning for transparency.

I appreciated this securing mechanism over their previous mechanisms as this does not require anything special or extra pieces. You can simply insert the controller and secure it. Their previous golf extensions required a separate battery cover that needed to be used. If you happened to misplace it, you couldn’t use the grip to the best of its ability.

Installation & Setup

Setup is quick and straightforward. The GA1 uses a simple mounting system, and everything you need is included in the box:

  • Professional golf grip
  • 34g weighted iron
  • L-shaped screwdriver
  • Instruction manual

Installation only takes a few minutes, and once mounted, the controller feels well integrated into the club design.

Important note:

  • You must use the right Quest controller, even if you play left-handed
  • Left-handed players can switch to left-handed mode within supported games

Space Requirements & Practical Considerations

This is where the GA1 may be a dealbreaker for some users.

Because the club is 31.5 inches long and non-adjustable, you absolutely need adequate play space. Ceiling height, nearby furniture, and wall clearance all matter here. This is not an accessory you can comfortably use in a small room or tight play area. In my studio space, I definitely need to check each swing before use as I don’t have a ton of space.

It’s also worth noting that due to its length and realism, it’s best suited for standing, full-swing gameplay rather than simple putt games.

Game Compatibility & Best Use Cases

The AMVR GA1 truly shines in full-scale golf simulation games.

Highly Recommended For:

  • Golf+
  • Golf 5
  • Other realistic VR golf titles focused on full swings

Not Recommended For:

While the GA1 technically works in mini golf games, it feels like overkill. Walkabout Mini Golf is designed around shorter, more casual motions, and the full-length GA1 doesn’t add enough value there to justify its size or price. There is no haptic feedback while putting, just with iron and driver swings. If Walkabout is your only golf game, this probably isn’t the accessory for you.

Final Verdict

The AMVR GA1 Haptic VR Golf Club is a fantastic accessory for serious VR golf fans who want maximum realism on the Meta Quest 3 and 3S.

It delivers:

  • Excellent build quality
  • Convincing force feedback
  • Realistic weight and swing feel
  • Strong controller security

However, it also demands:

  • Plenty of physical space
  • A commitment to full golf simulation games

If you primarily play Golf+ or Golf 5 and want the most immersive VR golf experience possible, I would 100% recommend the AMVR GA1. It’s one of the closest things you can get to swinging a real club in VR.

If your golf experience is limited to Walkabout Mini Golf, the GA1 simply isn’t worth it in my opinion—there are smaller, simpler options that make more sense.

For the right player and the right games, though, the AMVR GA1 is an outstanding piece of VR hardware.
