The Most Realistic VR Golf Club? – DeadEyeVR DriVR Apex for Meta Quest Review

Share:

If you’re serious about VR golf, the DriVR Apex from DeadEyeVR is one of those accessories that immediately changes how the game feels. This isn’t a casual add-on, it’s built for players who want their VR swing to actually resemble a real one. We’re going to break this down into design, features, real use, and more.

Check out the video below for full assembly instructions, gameplay video with Golf+ and Walkabout Mini Golf, and my full breakdown and review.

First Impressions & Build Quality

Right away, the DriVR Apex feels premium. The aerospace-grade aluminum shaft gives it a strong but lightweight construction, and the molded golf grip feels like something you’d find on a real club, not a plastic accessory.

The extended length is a big deal. Unlike shorter VR handles, this one pushes the center of gravity farther out, which makes swings feel far more natural and less “controller-like.”

It’s clear this wasn’t designed as a gimmick, it’s meant to simulate real golf mechanics as closely as possible.

Setup & Compatibility

Setup is quick and painless thanks to the cup clamp system. You can attach your controller in seconds, and it supports:

  • Meta Quest 3
  • Meta Quest 3S
  • Meta Quest Pro
  • Left and right-handed players

The open-face design ensures the headset cameras can still track the controller LEDs properly, which matters a lot more than you’d think.

The weight setup has two options, the washers inside of the container at the bottom or the two rings attached to the lower end of the shaft. Both are easy to adjust.

Performance in Games

Full Swing Games (Where It Shines)

This is where the DriVR Apex really earns its reputation.

In games like Golf+ or Golf5, the difference is immediate:

  • Swings feel smoother and more controlled
  • Weight distribution improves tempo and follow-through
  • The added realism actually helped reduce inconsistencies (like slicing in my case)

I really felt like it helped my slice. The added length and weight naturally guide a better swing path.

The adjustable weights make it also feel more realistic because you can make it weigh very similar to whatever real club you like to use. I’ll discuss weights more in the next section.

Casual Games (Like Walkabout Mini Golf)

It still works great, but honestly, it’s overkill.

For something like Walkabout, you don’t need this level of realism. It’s like bringing a full driver to a putting green. Usable, but not necessary. So if you only play putting games, you might not want to spend this much. I do both, so it’s worth it.

Adjustable Weight System (The Standout Feature)

This is where the Apex separates itself from most competitors.

DeadeyeVR Weight Adjustments - True North VR
From the DeadEyeVR Website

With:

  • 10 weight washers (about 10g each)
  • 2 larger accessory weights (65g each)

You can dial the club anywhere from roughly 400g to 630g.

That customization is huge:

  • Want a lighter, faster swing? Remove weights
  • Want a heavier, more realistic feel? Stack them on

It lets you fine-tune the club to match your real-life preference, which is something most VR golf attachments don’t offer at this level. Yezro offers weight adjustments on some of their clubs as well but not to this level. DeadEye VR has taken this to the max and it is truly impressive.

Tracking & Balance

One of the biggest concerns with VR attachments is tracking, and the Apex nails it.

  • No tracking issues during gameplay
  • Controller placement feels intentional and well-balanced
  • The angle and positioning help maintain consistent sensor visibility

That balance also contributes to better swing mechanics overall.

Extra Value

DeadEyeVR includes a few nice bonuses:

  • Wall mount for storage
  • Wrist strap for safety
  • Extra weights for customization

These aren’t just throw-ins, they actually add to the overall experience.

What Could Be Better

There aren’t many downsides, but a few things to consider:

  • Premium price – This is not a budget accessory
  • Overkill for casual players – Best suited for serious golf sims
  • No haptics (yet) – Though a future attachment is reportedly in development

Final Verdict

The DriVR Apex is easily one of the best VR golf club attachments available right now, especially if you play full-swing golf games regularly. For pure realism of full swing games, I think this one is the best.

It delivers:

  • Excellent build quality
  • Highly customizable weight system
  • Realistic swing feel
  • Reliable tracking

If you’re looking to turn VR golf into something that actually feels like golf, this is a top-tier choice.

Score: 9/10
Premium, realistic, and incredibly well-designed, but best suited for players who truly want that next level of immersion.
