The XbotGo Chameleon AI Tracking Sports Camera is a hands-free, AI-powered sports camera system designed to follow the action automatically. Rather than manually filming with a cameraperson, this device uses built-in AI and motion prediction to track players and gameplay across more than 20 different sports. It’s built for parents, coaches, and content creators who want to capture high-quality footage without having to operate the camera all game long.

Its standout features include 360° rotation, a 120° ultra wide lens, 4K video, live streaming, and automatic highlight generation. This is all controlled through the XbotGo app on your mobile device.

Features

Here are some of the most notable features of the Chameleon:

  • AI Tracking & Auto-Framing: Uses the XbotVision AI to follow players, the ball, and general motion trends in real time.
  • Key Player / FollowMe Mode: You can lock onto a specific player (by jersey number or appearance), so the camera follows that individual throughout the game.
  • Smart Motion Prediction & Geo-Fencing: The system predicts where movement is likely to go and keeps the camera focused within the field or “play zone.”
  • Optical Zoom Intelligence: Zooms in on key moments (goals, fast breaks) without losing clarity, according to XbotGo.
  • Live Streaming: You can stream directly from the Chameleon to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, or any RTMP-based service — all controlled via the app.
  • Automatic Highlight Generation: The app uses AI to identify and create highlight clips, saving you from manually editing hours of footage.
  • Real-Time Scoreboard: There’s a “ScoreSync” feature that overlays live scores into the recording, giving context to the action.
  • Remote Control: Use your phone or even an Apple Watch to control zoom, adjust angles, and monitor live video.

App

The XbotGo app is central to the Chameleon experience. You actually can’t use the camera without it. You must start the recording from in the app. Here is what you will find in the app:

  • Live Monitoring & Streaming: View a live preview of what the camera sees, stream games in real time, and broadcast directly to social or custom RTMP platforms. You can include a scoreboard overlay for streaming and recording if you would like.
  • Tutorials: You’ll find a whole list of tutorials to help you get the most out of your device.
  • Video Editing: There are multiple ways to edit your videos captured with the XbotGo Chameleon. There is basically a full-fledged video editing program in the app. There is also an automatically generated highlights option making it easy to quickly extract the best parts of the game.
  • Gallery: In the gallery you will be able to see any recorded footage that you have taken. You can choose whether to store it locally or on the cloud. With cloud storage, you can sign into your account on any device and access the footage. From here you can also delete footage you no longer need.
  • Updates & No Monthly Fee: The app is free to use, and there’s no mandatory subscription for basic features. There are some upgrades that you can get. Like more Cloud space, etc.
  • Compatibility Requirements: It requires a relatively modern smartphone (for instance, iPhone 11 / A12 onward, or recent high-end Androids).

Real Use

I had the chance to use it extensively with an Ice Hockey game. Though I obviously didn’t test it with every sport available, this gave me a good idea of how it works and how to use it.

What Works Well:

  • Hands-Free Recording: Once set up on a tripod, it really frees you from manual filming.
  • Remote: The remote is a great addition. With the remote, you can mark important moments, control the camera movement if it needs a reset, and start/stop recording. All of this made the actual footage much easier to go through after the game was over.
  • Multi-Sport Versatility: Works across many sports. Soccer, basketball, hockey, even dance or martial arts. I liked that within each of the sports there are different options to select as well to better help the camera.
  • Solid Video Quality: 4K resolution capability with a wide field of view captures more of the action. I often chose lower quality, just HD, as I didn’t want to deal with huge file sizes.
  • Highlight Generation Is Useful: Automatically creating clips helps for sharing or reviewing key moments.
  • Compact: I like how small everything is able to be packed. It made it really easy to bring to the game and then set up. The case for the camera and the tripod are great.

Challenges / Some Drawbacks:

  • Tracking Limitations: I did notice that the camera would sometimes focus on the ref instead of the play. So it would take a moment to catch up to the play. This didn’t happen often but just something to note.
  • App Issues: As I mentioned in the video, if the app isn’t working, then you can’t actually record anything. The app had an update that made it not work on any of my phones (I have both Apple and Android). I had to go in the back way to install a previous version to get it to work again. The app is patched now and working but on the day when I was going to use it, it was pretty frustrating.
  • Phone Dependency: Since your phone does a lot of the processing, weaker or older phones might struggle or limit performance. And your phone must be charged as well!
  • Storage Limits: 20 GB of free cloud is generous, but for heavy users who want 4K resolution or for long tournaments, that could fill up fast. You can purchase more if needed

Verdict

The XbotGo Chameleon is a very compelling solution for semi-pro or grassroots sports recording. I think it is especially tempting for parents, coaches, and content creators who want to capture quality footage without the cost or hassle of a cameraman. When comparing it to its competitors, this is an awesome deal. Even though I did have the one issue with the app, I still would recommend this as a solution for your recording needs!

Pros:

  • Truly hands-free, AI-driven tracking
  • 4K video with wide field-of-view
  • Multi-sport support
  • Remote control & live streaming via app
  • Automatic highlights — saves time
  • No mandatory subscription for core features

Cons:

  • Some connectivity and app reliability issues at times
  • Reliant on your smartphone, so performance depends on your device
  • Cloud storage limit may be a factor for heavy users

Who It’s For:

  • Parents filming their kids’ games
  • Coaches recording match footage for analysis
  • Small clubs or community teams
  • Players wanting to make recruiting videos, etc.
  • Content creators building highlight reels

Who Might Want Something Else:

  • High-level or professional teams that need ultra-precise, dedicated filming
  • Users needing unlimited, high-capacity local storage
  • Very fast or chaotic sports where AI tracking struggles
