BOBOVR S3 Pro vs M3 Pro – Which Head Strap Is Best for Meta Quest 3 and 3S?

Share:

When it comes to upgrading the Meta Quest 3 or 3S, few accessories make as much of a difference as a quality head strap. Comfort, balance, and extra battery life can completely change how long you stay immersed in VR.

BOBOVR has long been one of the go-to brands for premium head straps, and their two latest options — the S3 Pro Super Strap and the M3 Pro — both promise comfort and endurance. After testing both models extensively, here’s my full comparison to help you choose the right one for your setup.

Design and Build Quality

Both the S3 Pro and M3 Pro use BOBOVR’s halo-style design, which rests weight around the forehead and back of the head rather than relying on face pressure. This style is ideal for long sessions since it reduces the front-heavy feeling that Quest 3 users often notice. I also really prefer this for watching movies, low-intensity games, and especially mixed reality games.

The S3 Pro feels more premium right out of the box. It has a little thicker padding, an upgraded front bracket that includes a bigger forehead pad and a fan. The cooling fan system has 100 adjustable levels which is perfect for long or high-intensity VR sessions. There are also adjustable/removable top arm pads as well.

The M3 Pro, by contrast, takes a more minimalist approach. It’s noticeably lighter (around 430 grams including its battery) and focuses on simplicity and balance. The halo design still works well, and the padding is comfortable, but it skips extras like the fan, bigger battery, and adjustable/removable top pads.

Battery System and Runtime

One of BOBOVR’s biggest advantages over other brands is its magnetic hot-swappable battery design. Both the S3 Pro and M3 Pro use this system, but with different capacities.

During my tests, the S3 Pro consistently delivered about double the runtime of the M3 Pro before needing a swap. The B100 battery charges faster and provides more consistent output under load. The M3 Pro still offers plenty of playtime for casual sessions, but the smaller B2 pack can drain faster during graphically intensive games. How much game time you need really depends on your situation. Both being hot-swappable really do allow for endless game time, you would just need more B2’s to make up the difference.

For heavy VR users, the S3 Pro’s larger battery makes a huge difference. However, the M3 Pro’s lighter design means less neck fatigue — a trade-off worth considering if you usually play for shorter bursts.

Comfort and Fit

Both models feature BOBOVR’s signature halo head strap with a rotating adjustment wheel on the back. This makes fine-tuning your fit easy and secure. Both back pads have a wide range of motion so you can adjust it on the back of your head where you need.

The M3 Pro wins in the weight contest. It balances the headset nicely and feels almost effortless to wear for an hour or two. The only thing that might come up is that the two top pads aren’t adjustable. I need to adjust the front so that the headset was at the lowest setting so that my head had room for the top pad arms on top. Otherwise, they were really digging into my head.

The S3 Pro, while heavier, spreads weight evenly and the active cooling fan does help reduce forehead sweat during longer sessions*. If you often spend multiple hours in VR, that airflow system becomes surprisingly valuable.

One small detail I appreciated: the S3 Pro’s rear pad is redesigned to let you rest your head against a chair or couch without the battery digging in. That’s a subtle but meaningful improvement over previous designs. However, I still think the stock head strap is the best for laying down. You do need a pretty thick cushion to absorb the size of the back part of the head strap. I would say it is more so okay for leaning back with a pillow.

*The efficiency of the fan does depend on two things:

  1. The type of facial interface you are using. If the facial interface doesn’t have any vents and is right against your face, it will block the air flow from the fan. Bobovr does have a special interface made that has little channels in it to allow for air flow.
  2. If you just are using the stock facial interface, you can wear it so it is slightly off your face since the S3 Pro is a halo strap. This will allow for air flow.

Build Features and Extras

  • Cooling Fan (S3 Pro only): The integrated fan keeps your faceplate clear of fog and your forehead cool. It’s quiet enough that it fades into the background once you start playing.
  • Magnetic Battery Dock: Both straps use BOBOVR’s hot-swappable magnetic battery system, letting you switch batteries mid-session in seconds.
  • Cable Management: The included power cable routes cleanly along the head strap, staying out of your field of view.
  • Compatibility: Both work perfectly with the Meta Quest 3 and 3S; the S3 Pro also integrates nicely with BOBOVR’s additional accessories (like their charging dock and replacement batteries). There is a spot on the BOBOVR D3 Charging dock for the B100 Battery to charge.

Real-World Performance

Over several weeks of testing, I alternated between the two straps during long VR sessions.

The M3 Pro impressed me with how light and balanced it felt — great for relaxed and more intense games, and shorter gaming sessions. The smaller battery means less rear weight, and the halo adjustment allowed me to get a comfortable fit.

The S3 Pro, though bulkier, felt more “premium” and performance-oriented. Once adjusted, the extra padding and cooling fan created a more stable experience, especially during multi-hour play sessions. Battery anxiety vanished; I could play an entire evening without touching a charger.

In short: the M3 Pro feels nimble and easy, while the S3 Pro feels robust and marathon-ready.

Verdict: Which One Should You Buy?

We haven’t discussed price. And the price will help determine a bit which one you might want to get.
S3 Pro = $90
M3 Pro = $50

If you want the best of the best, the BOBOVR S3 Pro is hard to beat. It’s heavier and more expensive, but the performance, cooling, and extended battery life make it the ultimate head strap for serious Meta Quest 3 users.

However, the M3 Pro offers tremendous value. It delivers the core comfort improvements BOBOVR is known for — halo support, magnetic battery swapping, balanced design — at nearly half the price. For casual players or anyone who prefers a lighter setup, the M3 Pro is an excellent choice.

In my experience, the S3 Pro feels like the “pro gamer” version, while the M3 Pro is the lightweight “everyday comfort” strap.

Where to Buy

You can grab both directly from BOBOVR’s official site, or from major retailers like Amazon US and Amazon Canada.

Final Thoughts On BOBOVR S3 Pro and M3 Pro

BOBOVR continues to refine the Meta Quest 3 experience with head straps that balance comfort, battery life, and premium design. Whether you go with the lightweight M3 Pro or the feature-packed S3 Pro, you’ll instantly feel the difference compared to the stock strap.

For me, the S3 Pro stays above the M3 Pro. However, the M3 Pro has earned a spot on my list of the best head straps for Meta Quest 3 and 3s
